Crater Lake

This postcard was originally produced by United Air Lines showing Crater Lake National Park, near Medford, Oregon. "The United Mainliners fly from all the East, the Midwest, and California to fifteen Pacific Northwest cites, including Portland and Seattle-Tacoma" so says the card.

We date this postcard between 1935 and 1940, based on the use of the word "Kodachrome" on the back in reference to the coloring on the picture and the history timeline of Untied Airlines. (See the history of Kodak to learn more about the affects of Kodachrome on camera history.)

Multnomah Falls

Multnomah Falls, the second highest water fall in the United States, is the largest of many falls seen along the highway. A huge volume of water falls from the cliff 840 feet into a rock basin and then 70 feet to the floor of the valley. The pretty environment of tree-clad hillsides with their ferns and flowers, the rhythmic murmur of the waters, the rainbows of the spray, and the majesty of the surroundings render this place without an equal from a scenic standpoint. This beautiful lithographic postcard is dated 1935 and also shows Benson Foot Bridge built in 1914 by Simon Benson.
