This 1912 vintage postcard shows the John D. Rockefeller Home in Cleveland, Ohio which was used as the Rockefeller’s summer home.
John D. Rockefeller was the founder of Standard Oil Company and revolutionized the oil industry through his efforts in modernizing equipment and opening new shipping methods. Rockefeller also is know for his philanthropy and in a way revolutionized the business of raising money for non-profit organizations. He was a prominent citizen of Cleveland, Ohio in the early 1900s and his home would have been a tourist attraction.
The Rockefeller Home in Cleveland and the surrounding grounds were called Forest Hill at the time the Rockefeller’s lived there; the time of this vintage postcard. Today, Forest Hill is the name of a community built on the same estate grounds as the Rockefeller Home.
